Hazeltine’s Golf Pros Pick the 2017 U.S. Open Championship

Written by Hazeltine National on Jun 16, 2017 1:59:56 PM

The 2017 U.S. Open Championship will be contested in Wisconsin for the first time, at Erin Hill Golf Course, June 12-18. Hazeltine favorite, Davis Love, III, 2016 Ryder Cup Captain, will be caddying for his son, Davis "Dru" Love, IV, who qualified as first alternate at the Ball Ground, GA, sectional. In addition to Dru Love, Hazeltine's pros share their thoughts on who to keep an eye on this week.

Erin Hills will be a new experience for most of the field for this years US Open, with only a handful of players who may have played the 2011 US Amateur. Our National Open always rewards straight driving, deft putting, and avoiding the disaster holes. I'll put Matt Kuchar on my list of favorites along with Rory McIlroy. Even though Rory has been resting a bad rib, he should be fresh and healthy for the extremely long walk around Erin Hills.

For my favorite, I am going to go with Jordan Spieth.  Last time he played a similar golf course was Chambers Bay, and I like is patience to win another US Open.  For my sleeper pick I am going to go with Rickie Fowler, he was close at The Masters this year, he performed well at Pinehurst #2 a few years back, which is similar again in the style of golf course.  As my dark horse, even though he's not been playing like it, is Jon Rahm.  The kid is a stud, he's got all the intangibles to win, its just a matter of time.  Look for me to continue to use his name in the rest of the majors!
