Patrick Hunt appointed as Chair of 2016 Ryder Cup Matches at Hazeltine National Golf Club

As Hazeltine National Golf Club, the Twin Cities’ premier golf club, prepares to host one of golf’s greatest events, its Board of Governors has appointed Patrick Hunt as the Chair of the 2016 Ryder Cup Matches.

Hunt is President and CEO of Hunt Adkins, an award-winning branding, advertising and digital development firm headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has been a member at Hazeltine since 1994 and served on its Board of Governors from 1999 to 2008. Hunt was also part of the Executive Committee for the 2002 and 2009 PGA Championships at Hazeltine. He served as a Director of the Minnesota Golf Association from 2001 to 2007.

“Patrick’s demonstrated leadership as a part of the Executive Committee of our two previous PGA Championships makes him uniquely qualified to take on this important role for Hazeltine,” said Tim Rainey, Club President at Hazeltine.

The 2016 Ryder Cup will be Hazeltine’s first time hosting this international event between the United States and Europe. Every two years, teams of professional golfers from the United States and Europe compete against each other for the Ryder Cup trophy. It is considered one of the top 10 global sporting events and has the potential to bring more than $100 million in economic impact to the Twin Cities.

“I am honored and genuinely excited to a part of the biggest event in golf and what will likely be the only Ryder Cup held in Minnesota during our lifetimes,” said Hunt. “I am especially looking forward to the Minnesota golf community demonstrating to a worldwide audience that, once again, our passion for the game of golf and ability to conduct events of this magnitude is unparalleled.”

As Chair, Hunt will oversee the entire volunteer effort that supports the PGA Ryder Cup operations team – from sales and marketing to contestant and spectator services to security, parking and community relations. He will also lead a team from Hazeltine to this year’s Ryder Cup matches at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois.

Designed by Robert Trent Jones in 1962 and remodeled by Rees Jones in 1987, Hazeltine has hosted two U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, the U.S. Senior Open, two U.S. Women’s Opens and the U.S. Amateur Championship. It has hosted more United States Golf Association events than any other golf club in the United States.
