CHASKA, MINN (November 20, 2024). Totton P. Heffelfinger founded Hazeltine National Golf Club in 1962 to provide a pure golf experience and build a championship golf course for the Twin Cities area. Hazeltine anchored its mission to three core tenets: tradition, championship golf, and exceptional member experiences. Remaining true to our history and tradition, we're proud to unveil Vision 2040: Hazeltine's Long-Range Plan.
"To perpetuate our mission, we are excited to share the first chapter of Vision 2040," said Hazeltine Club President Dan Mulheran. "This plan clearly aligns with our mission and core tenets and is a tremendous accomplishment for our membership and partners. Through Vision 2040, we aim to cement Hazeltine as the premier championship private golf facility in the country."
Vision 2040 will be released in phases. Most of the initiatives in Phase 1 are now implemented, incorporating multiple new amenities:
The final part of Phase 1 will be completed by late Fall 2025:
Our partners at Love Golf Design designed our new short course and putting course (Phase 1) and are also developing a master plan for improving our championship course (future phase). Davis Love III, who captained the winning Ryder Cup team at Hazeltine in 2016, expressed his excitement for the project.
"It's an exciting time for Hazeltine, and the future is bright," Love said. "We are very excited to see the finished products and I cannot wait to tee it up out there."
No matter your skill level, short courses offer golfers a more condensed developmental experience and an excellent opportunity to grow their skills. In partnership with Love Golf Design, Hazeltine broke ground on our 10-hole short course in June 2024. The course, playable to five double greens, is now open for play.
Our 130-yard-long putting course features many slopes and undulations, offering our members and guests of all abilities the chance to hone their putting skills and have some serious fun. The course includes a 4-hole practice area for skill development and a 10-hole routing for extended play and competition, mirroring the 10-hole short course.
It resides directly between the short course and villas, allowing those occupying the villas to walk off their patios directly onto the putting course. It also have low-profile lighting for evening putting sessions.
At Hazeltine, inclement weather will not be a limitation to enjoying golf. No matter the conditions, our new golf performance center will provide a best-in-class experience for our members and guests to have fun or work on their game.
The nearly 9,000-square-foot facility will include the following:
Hazeltine will venture into the overnight hospitality space with on-site four-bedroom villas. These villas will give members the chance to experience extended stays without leaving the property.
We broke ground on six new villas in August 2024, with planned completion by Summer 2025. The spacious units will draw architectural style from the club's existing buildings.
Each villa will have four king-size bedrooms with an en suite bathroom, a common area/living room, a dining area, kitchen, and private patio with a fire pit overlooking the putting course and short course. Villas will be available year-round to members and their guests.
All great golf clubs have a memorable entrance, and ours is no exception. Now open for members, Hazeltine’s new club entrance honors our rich history and tradition of championship golf while creating a welcoming first impression. Thoughtfully designed to enhance the member and guest experience, this new arrival point serves as a warm and elegant introduction to the Club, with a team member present to greet and acknowledge each arrival—setting the tone for an exceptional experience at Hazeltine.
At Hazeltine National Golf Club, we will always strive to remain true to our mission of being a golf club rich in tradition, dedicated to hosting championship golf, and delivering exceptional experiences. Phase 1 of Vision 2040 is delivering on that mission, and we are incredibly grateful to our members, partners, and team for the progress we’ve made so far.
Looking ahead, we are excited to host Regional Qualifying for Drive, Chip and Putt in 2025, the 2026 KPMG Women's PGA Championship, and the 2029 Ryder Cup Matches, becoming the only club in the country to have hosted the Ryder Cup twice. We also look forward to developing a comprehensive master plan for our championship golf course in partnership with Love Golf Design during future phases of Vision 2040.
The future could not be brighter at Hazeltine National Golf Club. We will continually strive to cement Hazeltine as the premier championship private golf club facility in the country.
